Protector Series

Winner of numerous accolades and awards, the Protector series was able to clock up 120m+ players, this at a time before smartphones, when those numbers were a rarity.

The original was developed over the course of 6 months and was written entirely within the flash IDE on the timeline, but the design was solid and a flash based isometric game (which at the time I barely understood myself) was something fresh. Before it flash games were considered 5 min time wasters, suddenly people were getting hours of enjoyment from a single free game they found online.

Culminating in the release of Protector IV.V I felt the game had reached the end of what I could do with it and the presentation was getting stale, it had Multiple Quest paths, a reputation system, extensive skill trees for 100s of unit types, procedurally generated levels & more features than even I remember.

Sponsored by Kongregate, at the time, their most successful flash game acquisition and the pioneer of a new flash game sponsorship model, Protector caused several site downtimes as it helped drive millions of players to what was then a new startup.
